Weekend Sailing Trip '99

On Thursday June 17th Tom Robertson and I set sail for points unknown. My goal was to launch my Tanzer 16 somewhere in Ottawa and go towards Montreal. I wanted to make it through the lock at Carillon.(context map)

I put the boat in the water at the Ottawa Rowing Club. Their ramp is really crappy and I would not recommend its use. We were in the water at about 4:30 and underway by 5:00. This second picture has the city of Hull (across from Ottawa) in the background.

As we sailed along the wind came around from behind us and blew from this direction for most of the trip. We overnighted at the golder anchor in Rockland and camped in the municipal park right next door.

On Friday we stopped at Montabello for a look around.

Later on Friday we passed under the new bridge at Hawksbury.

On Saturday about noon we went through the lock at Carillon. This first picture is the downstream gate with the water at its high level. As the water level drops here is a view back at the upper door and a picture of us in the lock. Here is the lower gate as the water drops.

When the lock reaches the lower level the lower lower gate opens. and we leave the lock. Here is a view of the lower side.

The motor lost a cyl on Friday and with little wind on Saturday we decided to pack it in. So we got the boat on the trailer and took a break.
